Royal Austrian Jewelry Auction Results

Sotheby's auctioned over 200 royal jewels linked to Austria's Hapsburg dynasty for $10.7 million, nearly doubling the anticipated proceeds.

Originating from a single owner and recently unearthed in a bank vault, these jewels constituted the "most significant and extensive" collection of Viennese imperial and royal jewelry ever 

Presented for auction, according to Sotheby's. The sale, titled "Vienna 1900: An Imperial and Royal Collection," marked the debut of these items at auction.

Sotheby's successfully sold all 207 offered items, surpassing the initial presale estimate of CHF 3 million to CHF 5 million ($3.3 million to $5.5 million). A remarkable 82% of the lots exceeded their upper price estimates, attracting participation from numerous bidders across Europe and North America.

The standout piece of the auction was a corsage ornament featuring a garland design adorned with natural pearls and diamonds. This historical item, gifted to Archduchess Marie-Thérèse of Austria-Teschen in 1865, fetched nearly $1.2 million, more than double its anticipated upper estimate of CHF 450,000 ($500,190).
